Today I introduce Marie Lavender, a Midwestern USA writer and author of the recently released book, Directions of the Heart<\/em><\/p>\n

What is your current project?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am currently editing Blood Instincts<\/em>, the second book of the Blood at First Sight Series. This is a futuristic paranormal romance\/urban fantasy.\"\"<\/p>\n

What are the hardest and easiest aspects of writing for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The easiest parts come whenever the muse is cooperating, when the words are flowing well in a scene and before I know it, I\u2019ve produced a big chunk of the story. Let\u2019s see\u2026what is difficult? Action scenes can be challenging for me. They need to make sense, so I really have to picture what\u2019s going on. It always helps to get a second opinion; to be sure it works well for a reader. Also, editing is difficult. I often take a break beforehand; that way I\u2019m in the right mindset to be more critical toward my own work.<\/p>\n

Who is your favourite\u00a0hero and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Out of my books? That\u2019s a tough one. I love them all! Right now, however, I\u2019d probably side with Captain Grant Hill of the Heiresses in Love Series. He\u2019s a fascinating man, and he just gets better with time, in my opinion. And the other one I can\u2019t help but love? Jack from the novella \u2018A Touch of Dawn\u2019 in Directions of the Heart<\/em>. He has a lot of hurdles to jump through to find his happy ending, but he more than deserves to find peace and contentment.<\/p>\n

Who is your favourite heroine and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I still love Fara Bellamont from Upon Your Return<\/em>. She also pops up in the other books in the series! With her romantic, dreamy side, I\u2019m reminded a lot of myself at the age of eighteen.<\/p>\n

Your current book is a modern romantic drama collection. Do you stray into other genres?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course! I am all over the place; that\u2019s why I\u2019m calling myself a multi-genre author. I\u2019ve published historical romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, fantasy, science fiction, mystery\/thriller, dramatic fiction, literary fiction and poetry. With my works in progress (119\u2026yikes!), my stories encompass those genres but also others like comedy, time travel, reincarnation themes, dystopian, horror, and even erotic romance. Though I may need a second pen name for that last genre. LOL!<\/p>\n

You write a few different blogs. Can you tell us what they are all about?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sure! I host Writing in the Modern Age, Marie Lavender\u2019s Books! and the I Love Romance Blog. Writing in the Modern Age<\/a> is a great blog for readers to find their new favorite authors, and for writers at any stage of their careers to look for inspiration and writing tips. We feature about 90+ guest authors per year, and among all of our different features (new release features<\/a> and blog tour spotlights, cover reveals, author interviews, service interviews, character interviews<\/a>, Author\u2019s Bookshelf features<\/a>, guest articles<\/a>, poetry spotlights<\/a>, as well as meg<\/p>\n

Marie Lavender\u2019s Books!<\/a>, or the MLB blog, mostly features news about my work, but occasionally we run book spotlight interviews<\/a>, author interviews and new release features for other authors. Recently, we started taking cat guest blog posts<\/a> (from the perspective of an author\u2019s house cat and what it\u2019s like to be one).<\/p>\n

On the I Love Romance Blog<\/a> (ILRB), we focus on novels and relationships. We take guest posts about romantic relationships<\/a>, as well as articles on romance writing<\/a>, and we also feature new releases<\/a>, cover reveals, blog tour spotlights, character interviews<\/a>, romantic poetry spotlights<\/a>, and pretty much anything related to our love of romance. There\u2019s a great blog series called \u2018What Does Romance Mean to Me?\u2019<\/a>. Additionally, we\u2019re starting a new feature titled \u2018Heroes & Heroines\u2019, in which the romance author talks about a character who kept him or her up at night, whittling away at a certain book.<\/p>\n

If you travelled in time, when would be your choice? Would you prefer magical or technological means of travel?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ooh! I love time travel stories. I\u2019m a Doctor Who fan. To me, the means of transportation doesn\u2019t matter, as long as I get to experience the time period in question. I\u2019d love to enjoy the Victorian era firsthand. However, certain modern amenities that we have now would be a problem. Like plumbing. I really like the convenience of a nice toilet, but I guess I\u2019d have to scrap that idea in exchange for time travel, wouldn\u2019t I? LOL.<\/p>\n

What do you like to read, and has this changed over time?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019d like to think that my tastes have evolved somewhat. I\u2019m still a sucker for a good romance, but I try to keep my mind open to other possibilities.<\/p>\n

What is the next project?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a tie. I will either launch into first book of The Misfits Series, Chasing Ginger<\/em> (a romantic comedy), or work on a paranormal romantic thriller collection titled Awakening<\/em>. I\u2019m just waiting for the muse to point me in the right direction.<\/p>\n
